A few photographs of what’s blooming in the garden today.

Purple Monarda. aka Bee Balm. Planted in 2010 and blooming now for the first time. We will harvest the flowers for tea.

Alfalfa. My favorite space filler. I cut the alfalfa down a bit when it blocks the other plants. This one I will let go to seed as I am trying to fill the non-productive areas with this instead of weeds. Alfalfa is a deep rooted nitrogen fixer. I leave the cuttings on the garden.

Potato. Soon we will have fresh potatoes!

Cosmos. Pretty and no maintenance required. Self replacing!

Apples. Beautiful Anna Apples, early producer and great for canning. I made Apple Butter for the produce exchange. Will be canning more sweet apples for the winter months.

I got a great opportunity to photograph the AKC Junior Hunt Test at Prado Park on Saturday. I was honored to know a few of the contestant canines and had a great time taking photos. The judges were so kind to allow me to sit a few yards behind the line.

The dogs trained by Bill Quinn (Liam and Buster) are not shown in the gallery here because I decided to shoot video of their tests. Liam’s video may be viewed here and Buster’s video is here. I got all four retrieves for both of those dogs and the video shows more of the test which was quite challenging for some of the dogs.

Alas poor Galler did not run in the test. He is struggling with some sort of phobia right now, but he had a great time at home playing with his poodle RJ. Maybe Galler needs a guide dog to show him the way…
